We designed and built truckSPOT, a tool to help our community track illegal truck traffic in Detroit that is breaking ordinances for idling and unapproved routes. truckSPOT came out of meetings with local groups SW Community Benefits Coalition, the Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club, and the Michigan Education Justice Coalition. Various efforts have been made to keep trucks of off neighborhood streets, but the ordinance hasn’t had much compliance. To get a sense of the problem and to put tools in the hands of residents, we built truckSPOT to enable residents to document a nuisance truck to bolster community-led data gathering.

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Equitable Internet Initiative SW moved forward with creating a community resources with an intranet website available to all users of the EII Internet. We used Figma to collaboratively design the portal with input from EII. We then built a WordPress template to form the website.
